Project update – June 2010
“Are you comfortable writing for X audience?” “How about in Y sector?” “Ever written in Z medium?”...
We get asked these questions all the time. And because we’re writing all day, every day, for all manner of organisations, the answer’s almost always, “Yes, can we send you some credentials?” To give you more of an idea of the types of things we do, here’s the long and the short of some projects we’ve been involved in recently...
The long...
‘Long copy’ is often thought of as short copy’s less glamorous sister. We don’t think so. There’s something deeply satisfying about making sense of all that information, creating a story, then telling it in a way that gives it the best possible chance of being read, understood and acted upon. Recent long copy projects have included annual reports for RTL, who own TV, radio and internet services all over Europe (including Talkback Thames and Five in the UK) and WSP Group, a global engineering services consultancy. We’ve also completed a capabilities brochure and 175-page corporate website for Cable & Wireless.
And talking of websites, we’ve just written a 40-page site for the Australian College of Applied Psychology, a 350-page website refresh for University of Exeter Business School, and we’re about to embark on a similar exercise for City University, including developing their tone of voice. However, all these long copy projects are dwarfed by the 800-page site we did for the Department of Energy & Climate Change last summer.
...the short...
We’re often asked to distil messages and information into as few words as possible – even a single idea. We’ve written posters for the National Portrait Gallery (you may have seen them on the London Underground). And more recently, our team conjured up the slogan for football's UEFA EURO 2012 – ‘Creating history together’ – as well as product names, straplines, taglines, packaging copy and campaign concepts for organisations as diverse as Toyota, PC World, Nestle, Kimberly-Clark, Australia Post, Man Investments, Aldi, NHS, the Universities of Aberdeen and Glasgow, and accountants Moore Stephens.
...and the medium
Online, in print, on pack and on screen, we work in all the usual media and the not so usual. Recently we’ve done intranet copy for Tesco, brochures for Fujitsu Services, a magazine for Leicester City NHS, product literature for carpet manufacturer Ryalux, corporate video scripts for Macquarie Bank, sustainability reports for Southern Housing Group and TUI Travel, and brand guidelines and tone of voice work for research data centre Mimas and Norwegian IT company EDB.
As for other work outside of the UK and Australia, we've helped Dutch ethical bank Triodos and Belgian HR consultancy Securex sharpen their English language comms for growth in the UK. And we continue to work for organisations in Luxembourg, Switzerland, France, Russia, USA, the Middle East and China.
So if you’re looking for an experienced writer or team of writers for your project – whatever the size or medium – the answer’s simple. Get in touch and let’s see if we can help.
