writers - project updates

Project update – December 2003

Here's our latest update to let you know what's been going on at Writers - particularly in the fields of CSR and internal communications. If there's anything here that interests you - or is relevant to a project you may be working on – get in touch, and we'll send you more information.

New writer joins the team

This month Oliver Perry joined the Writers team. For the past ten years, Oliver has specialised in the IT and telecoms sectors, working for many of the major players in those industries.

CSR for Marks & Spencer

Following on from our editorial work on Marks & Spencer's first Corporate Social Responsibility review last year, we have worked recently on a variety of major projects designed to enhance the company's reputation in this area.

Launching Marks & Start

Leaflets and web copy for customers and participants, plus store guidelines, to support the launch of Marks & Start, the company's new employability programme, providing work experience opportunities for the homeless, young unemployed, students, parents returning to work, and people with disabilities.

Food magazine on the web

Writing 12 wide-ranging features on 'Producing our foods' for the Marks & Spencer food magazine on the web. The articles, aimed at consumers, highlight the care the company takes in producing its high quality foods, wines and flowers.

Ethical trading website

Editing the 70-page report that now forms the text of the company's comprehensive ethical trading website.

Focus on Vodafone internal communications

Over the last few months, we have worked on several major internal communications projects for Vodafone -

Internal magazine for the UK business

We played a leading role in the first issue of Vodafone's relaunched internal magazine, 'Voice'. As well as conducting interviews and writing all the content for the 32-page publication, we helped develop the structure, story ideas and tone of voice. We're about to start on the second issue.

Briefings for senior managers

Every quarter, Vodafone produces 'Have we got news for you' - a pdf and Powerpoint presentation to help senior managers brief their teams on the latest business news. Our role has been to collate and write all the content.

The Vodafone intranet

We created editorial guidelines for staff contributing copy to the UK intranet. The guidelines contain practical advice on style and tone of voice, as well as tips on writing relevant and engaging content. We then applied these guidelines across existing content as we helped the company consolidate five intranets into one.

Our other recent projects include:

Yamaha Motor Europe brand book

A comprehensive introduction to the Yamaha brand, aimed at dealers and all levels of Yamaha employees across Europe.

Sky TV - celebrating 15 years

Researching and writing a brochure to chart the progress of Sky TV, which started in 1989 with four channels, and now offers over 400 channels to more than seven million subscribers.

Metropolitan Police facts magazine

Editing the Met Police 'fact book', clearly outlining each operational unit and their responsibilities.

Adobe

Ads and mailers supporting the launch of the Acrobat 6.0 series, as well as other leading Adobe software products.

Rail Passengers Committee video

The Rail Passengers Committee North Eastern England is the statutory watchdog for rail passengers in the region. We wrote the script for a video, aimed at MPs, local authorities, the media and other decision makers, making the case for rail investment in the north of England.

Working Links - company magazine

We now act as lead copywriters and editors on WL LIFE - the quarterly magazine for Working Links, a public-private partnership between Jobcentre Plus, Manpower and Cap Gemini Ernst & Young. The magazine needs to appeal to everyone from jobseekers to MPs, and has already received recognition from the Plain English Campaign.

Imagine Co-operative childcare brochure

A brochure for parents, describing the unique 'co-operative' approach of Imagine nurseries, set up by the Oxford, Swindon and Gloucester Co-operative Society.

Met Office – newsletter and report

Editing a quarterly newsletter and annual report on air quality.
