Project update – May 2007

Retail

As part of our working relationship with Dixons Store Group Visual Communications, we’ve been advising on language and tone for PC World in-store promotions, and applying our recommendations to this summer's campaigns and information material. And as George revamps its offer in many Asda stores, we’ve helped develop POS concepts for the home department, and press advertising for the fashion range.

Professional services

We’ve written copy for the KPMG global careers website, at www.kpmg.com/Careers/. This gives information and inspiration for any potential recruit at any level for one of the world's leading networks of accountancy and advisory firms. It includes descriptions of services and opportunities, plus many interviews with employees at all levels, from all over the world.

Leisure and hospitality

To make the most of UK drinkers’ growing interest in wine, national pub chain Ember Inns holds a six-week wine festival every year. We wrote the copy for the ‘Grapevine’ magazine, with information on different styles of wine, grape varieties, wine-producing countries, and food and wine matching. For the weekly tasting nights, we wrote a series of cards to help people guess the identity of featured wines.

We’ve worked with several hotel groups over the years, including Marriott and Langham. Most recently, we’ve written a series of nearly 200 copy modules for Hilton Hotels, promoting various elements of the Group's hotels in their UK South region. These modules are for each hotel to use as required, as well as for third party promotional material such as travel websites.

Food and drink

When it comes to pack copy, the need for well-chosen words is particularly important. We’ve provided this recently for two very different confectionery brands from Nestlé: Heaven, a new luxury chocolate brand, and Milkybar, which needs no introduction.

We’ve also written web copy for a new arrival from South Africa: Peppadew Whole Sweet Piquanté Peppers. The site, at www.peppadew.co.uk encourages consumers to try this exotic ingredient in virtually any kind of dish.

Broadcasting

Following our work on major corporate publications for Sky TV – such as the annual Fact Books and 15-year history – we’ve recently written its new People Review.

We’ve also worked on this year’s annual report for RTL, a major broadcasting group with leading TV and radio stations all over Europe, including 'Five' in the UK. RTL also owns a worldwide production business, responsible for many highly successful programmes such as the Idol and X Factor formats. As well as editing directors' statements and the business highlights, we created 12 very well received feature articles on the Group's profit centres.

Technology

For Nokia, we’ve written sales presenters, aimed at network operators and mobile phone retailers, to explain and promote the company’s new range of mobile devices. We’ve also been working on print and online campaigns for Sony, targeting both resellers and end users.

Public sector

The Department for Work and Pensions has briefed us on a major project to ‘plain English’ its many leaflets on pensions, aimed at both the general public and advisers. For the Learning and Skills Council, we’ve developed a series of case studies promoting the Adult Learning Grant.

Following our first fisheries magazine for the Environment Agency, we’ve now written eight – one for each region of the country. We managed all the editorial for the magazines, co-ordinating a team of six writers. We’ve also worked with the Audit Commission, providing the words for a ‘communications toolkit’ to help staff communicate more effectively with each other.

Some other big names we’ve been working with include:

Royal Bank of Scotland Group – we’ve fulfilled an editorial and advisory role on the annual report for one of the world's top ten banking groups.

BP – by writing an arts and culture sponsorship brochure, we’ve helped raise awareness of BP’s partnerships with institutions such as the British Museum, National Portrait Gallery, Royal Opera House and Tate Britain.

RSPB – as well working on a number of fundraising campaigns, we’ve also written the RSPB’s ‘Green DIY’ handbook, encouraging people to adopt a more environmentally conscious lifestyle.

If you want to know more about any of the work mentioned above, or to talk about an upcoming project, please email or give us a call.
